"You
all are special, gifted people that touch so many lives, you are
probably not even aware of how your kindness and care and concern
helped me, and numerous others, through a very difficult time.
I was at the point of despair, questioning even my sanity, but
not one person looked at me without a smile appearing on their
face. "

THIS IS WHO WE
ARE.
As a state-licensed facility, of course we meet or exceed all standards for patient care set forth by the Texas Department of Health. Over and above those guidelines, Routh Street Women's Clinic has earned a well-deserved reputation for conscientious and excellent care since 1978. We are an experienced group of specialized physicians, nurses, and support staff that understands the feelings and anxiety you may be experiencing. We want you to know that this is a comfortable and safe place for you.
We have chosen our support staff carefully to give you an environment that allows open communication, understanding, and confidentiality. We believe in the services we provide for women and strive for excellence, honor and integrity in all that we do. We support and respect the women who come to us. We will always work to place your best interests first.
WHO WILL PERFORM
MY ABORTION?
In
the state of Texas, only a licensed physician can perform an abortion
procedure. But many licensed physicians, and even many gynecologists, have
little experience with providing abortion care, which is a subspecialty
of obstetrics and gynecology.
At Routh Street Women's
Clinic you will be seeing not only a doctor, but also a specialist.
Our physicians are affiliated with such professional organizations
as:
ARE ABORTION SERVICES CONFIDENTIAL?
Whether you are coming to Routh Street for an abortion, annual well woman exam, birth control, sonogram, or other services, we offer a comfortable environment based on complete confidentiality and respect for our patients.
We are committed to providing quality medical care in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
If you are considering an abortion, our sensitive and experienced patient advocates are here to assist you and answer any questions you may have. We recognize that for many women abortion is more than a medical procedure – we know that there can be an emotional part to the decision as well.
Our goal is always to take excellent care of our patients in all respects.
HOW DOES TEXAS
LAW AFFECT ME?
In 2004 the Woman's Right
to Know Act became effective in Texas. You have the "right
to know" that this law can delay your access to abortion.
It requires that you receive state-mandated information - either
from the doctor who will perform the abortion or from a
referring physician - and then imposes a 24-hour waiting period.
We make this process as convenient as possible for you, and it will not be necessary for you to make an extra trip to the clinic. However, please keep in mind that it is a good idea to plan ahead, and call us at least 2 days before you want to come for an appointment.
Additionally, the
Department of State Health Services (DSHS) has published printed
materials that include information about fetal development and a
directory of agencies that offer alternatives such as adoption.
State law does not
require you to view these materials, but if you would like to
view them in printed form, we are glad to provide them for you.
If you wish, you may also
access the DSHS materials online by clicking

WHAT IF I AM UNDER
18 YEARS OF AGE?
If you are under age
18, Texas law requires parental notification before a doctor may
do your abortion. If your parent or legal guardian cannot come
with you to the clinic, please call us ahead of time for information
about written notification.
If you are afraid to
tell your parent or guardian, or cannot do so for some other reason,
you can ask for a judicial bypass of that requirement.
This option is
free to you and completely confidential.
